I haven't read the whole thing yet, but the title caught my attention.

I think it will suck to be honest. W2K didn't really work until SP2 (some would argue SP4!) and XP needed SP2 to be a full system. Hell even Windows98 didn't work until the Second Edition. So the chances of Vista not being half-cocked is pretty low!
The whole six (or is it eight?) flavour thing? Which one should I buy? who the hell cares? it's too complicated!
Then there's the ability of users to have install rights, the whole DRM issue. And then there's BitLocker which is supposed to make your machine secure if someone steals it. How long before that gets cracked and is available on the Internet? After all, the government has demanded the keys to that little "security" system in case they want to have a look.
I hope to have a play with Vista before it goes gold but I don't expect to like it much.

It's kinda hard not to be jaded after hearing the same thing for Win 3.0 (greater and better than win 2.x!), win95, win98, winNT, Win2k, (winME), and WinXP.. time to wait and see what Vista breaks.. :) And how much we'll have to upgrade to even use it.
From a $65 dollar copy of MS Dos on a $3000 monitor-less Everex 386/20 with 40 Meg mfm hd and 1? meg of ram.. and another $65 for Win3.1 when it came out..
to $200 for Winxp Pro upg - on a $800 machine; I'm failing to see the economy of scale on the OS side of the package.. (Or why I need a machine that is over 1000 times faster to do things as slow or slower than I was able to do on an older OS on my machine in 1988.. )
But Vista will be great.. I'll be too busy upgrading and troubleshooting customer problems to get to play much. *snicker*
