We seem to have lost one of our big hitters since he passed the million mark :(

Uh oh. We'll miss him in the engine room.

Yep, his production has gone flatline. He did pick a good point to stop, (if it were really an option). Maybe he'll come back under another nym for another million.

I have shut down a few slower machines at home yesterday. I just got my latest electic bill the day before and it was not small. A third of the billing cycle didn't even see any Air Conditioning time. Anything that was just a cruncher at home got really quiet.

Against all odds there's smoke rising from the stack again! Shovel in some more coal!

Well unless he's been coming here incognito, he hasn't seen this thread. He hasn't officially visited since August 2004!

I guess you could call him a silent partner.

Yea, he probably couldn't stand the quiet.

Every time I walk into my server room at home it's eerily quiet.

Every time I walk into my server room at home it's eerily quiet. That sort of eery silence takes a heavy toll. Next thing you know you'll be hearing servers that aren't there. Then it'll be voices. They'll try electroconvulsive therapy but it won't work. Doctors will suggest surgery.

Do yourself a favor, Pell. Don't let that field lie fallow. Full speed ahead and damn the electric bill!

You're not helping!! :D

And yes, I do still hear the fans that aren't spinning at home.

Repaint the house.. WHITE. cover the roof with something temporary.. and paint it WHITE. Get 3 ea 3 foot diameter fans.. and mount two on either side of the eves of your roof by 3 foot square ventilation grills (with small chickenwire, and a layer of insect shielding betwen the fans and the outdoors).. one pushing, and one pulling air. Open up the attic entrance.. and hang the 3rd fan above the entrance.. to help suck the hot air out of the house.. into the attic.

Or create an underground basement.. and live in the basement during the summer. Nice, cool.. no need for AC..

/e starts chanting.. "There's two people catching up to you, Pell.."

Hopefully, 58Enfield is also in the same field.. and was/is just having heating problems.

We need more folks crunching in .. Canada, or on the southern portions of Australia.. :)

I've got a few fans in the server room moving out the really hot air. One of the rackmount cabinets has it's 8" high volume fan mounted to the top of the cabinet ducted out the window. The problem with moving out the really hot air, is that it draws in hot air throughout the rest of the house. We've already had a couple of 100 degree days. Today is kind of cool, the weather reports say the high will only be 88.

Yea, they're catching up, but not all that quickly. If we ever get all the new dualcore workstations here at the office, the gap won't close that fast.
