Running my main laptop at 1GHz to keep temps down in the summer is giving 2 hour, 40 minute step times on the current protein. Out of wild curiosity, I ramped it up to full speed of 1.7GHz and it's turning out steps in 2 hours and ten minutes.
I didn't really think it'd be linear but this is just silly.

What spec is the laptop?

That's disappointing. I suggest that you run out and buy a new laptop.

You buying Daniel? If so, I could use a faster CPU and a DVD burner in my next addition to "Lap Land".
Laptop is a Toshiba Tecra 1.7GHz P4m with a GB of RAM and nearly 10GB of free hard drive space. I chose it as a development box that could travel with me, it's a bit over three years old now.
It'll be around three years before I expect to be able to afford to replace it but, being a Toshiba, it'll join my other two Tecras in the basement crunching full-time. I retired the P 233 when G@H changed clients but it still comes out as a loaner for friends from time to time. The PII and PIII still run 24/7; they may not be the fastest things on the planet but they refuse to die.

Dang, that was a good investment. That little lapwarmer is still up to date. Maybe you should just overclock it. You could cool it by sealing it in a large ziplock bag and stuffing it in the freezer. Then when the battery catches fire your broccoli will be nicely cooked.

LMAO
Here I was thinking corn because it would conform to the case easier but now I'll have to give broccoli a look.
