Well for those of you that knew I was going to a computer show/expo. I managed to pick up all the parts I need to put this 550 back together.

Also for those of you that know, I know enough about computers to be this side of dangerous. ( you had to know that questions would follow)

Hope y'all are still willing to help little old me.

Here is my problem. I put the mobo in the box and it sets too low. (that is with the box on is side) i placed the board in and it needs to be boasted up a little.

I know I am not explaining this well. I tryed to put the video card on the board and it won't seat.

How can I add space between the side and the board. Do they make such a thing? Course if I put spacers in I will need longer screws to attach the board.

Any thoughts?

Hi Siggy:

There are different size standoffs. The mainboard tray has "standoffs" screwed into it, that the mainboard retaining screws screw into. If you have a local computer store, you can get replacements.

Have you bought a case recently? Is there a little box of hardware with different length standoffs? If not...

Take out one of the standoffs, go to the computer store and tell them you need longer ones. I'll be surprised if they charge you anything for them, because almost every new case comes with several different sizes, and they usually have tons of them lying around.

To make life easy, make sure the new ones have the same thread as the old ones.

Thanks Rick. I will be going to the computer store tomorrow. The box I just bought yesterday. Did not come with any "standoffs" I have a few left from the last computer but they do not fit. This box just as bumps where the screw go but they are not high enough.

That's where the stand offs go! Please don't screw the board to that there is a high probability that you will short out the board and cause major component damage. My Godfather's brother inlaw did this and toasted his mainboard. It smelled really bad, burnt PC parts BAD

OK ppl. I got the motherboard in. YEAH!!! now I can start working on where all these wires go. Hopefully there is only one place that they can fit. Otherwise I may have to flip a coin. Wish me luck.

Ok well I think I tried to deep fry the computer. So I packed the whole thing up and took it to Sniper. Hopefully he can bring it back to life. :(
