I've got a 1.7ghz P4 down for a few days. I stoped by the office to check on the clients and one of our machines was off. The dard thing wouldn't power up either, just a friggin amber flashing power button. After wading through Dell's BS support site, it said it is a power or mainboard problem. The lack of lit diagonostic leds on the back of the machine led me to believe it was a power supply problem. I swapped supplies between mine and the bad station, worked fine. Dell is shipping another out soon. I'd have used one of mine, but they use some proprietary connectors, figures.

At least I was able to get the genome work-done off the machine that is waiting for a PS, 'bout 250 WU ;)

Hmm, I just swapped a 1Ghz T-Bird for a 1.2 Palomino and my mobo stopped working properly. It is an MSI K7T266 Pro. The diagnostic LED's say "Assign resources to all ISA"...very useful. The mobo has support for the Palomino up to 1.4Ghz. It just stops after the POST. I have done everything, cleared the BIOS and removed all cards etc to no avail.

It is getting sent back tomorrow and I'll swap for a 760 chipset mobo. Expect my work load to drop for a few days :(

Sorry to hear about the hardware problems.

If I understand correctly, though, each of you lost about a gig, not the whole farm, so we'll still be #4 by the end of the week. Right?

Not to worry... I should get two 1.4GHz T-bird CPUs tomorrow.
