Not much choice. And someone who never had a phone, computer, tv, etc. Will not miss them.

I spent two years working in Afghanistan many years ago. The common people are good hearted folk. You could hear radios playing at futball fields and other gatherings but there was no technology, to speak of. Some women wore the chadri / burka (NO skin visible) when outside of their family walls -- others wore western clothes plus a scarf.

The Soviet occupation drove away lots of good folk, leaving the really poor and the religious leaders to try to restore order. The Taliban has had difficulty controlling the country so they continue to restrict people's freedom -- in the name of religion.

This ruling is consistent with other restrictions, but effects mainly the foreigners who are there working for aid agencies (who communicate with their home via email).

Repression is never pretty.

Because it's home.

And because you've never seen anything else.
