Buy one.
Now.
Relatively cheap at sub $200, relatively low power draw and >13K ppd.

It's going to be a little bit before I get to do any upgrades around here. But my son is looking at doing an upgrade in the next month or two. May help him out a little bit on the video card.

Definitely the way to go. Prices are back up slightly so I thnk I hit a low price point :)
The new 450GTS also looks pretty good but the 460GTX is a lot faster and only a little bit more expensive. Get the version with 768MB as it is significantly cheaper than the 1GB model and no slower at folding and barely slower in most games.

Well, my brother-in-law went out and bought new guts for his computer (MSI 785GM-E51) and 730 watt power supply, new video card. Kind of wish he would have asked and let me have time to check it out. A 1 gig gtx465. When he asked about it I told him to go down there and see what kind of deals they had. I guess I should have went along. I'm not going to oc it or anything. I know he would not look at it or see if it is having any problems. This thing is a mess. After looking at on line reviews for the vid card not a good choice. He was kind of budget limited. And went down to Fry's and asked them to set him up. The mother board after installing the vid card only has one pci slot available the rest are covered. And if you did have to use it. It would block the video card fan. The sata 1 is also blocked by the vid card. Had to rearrange the hard drives to fit this monster in. Takes two power cords. The mother board only has one ide slot. Which Isn't a big deal. But since he has a sata and ide hard drive and a sata and ide dvd/cd drives. Kind of makes it a pain to set up. Probably end up not using the ide hard drive but he wants me to move some stuff from the ide drive to the sata. So I'll just put it in temp. and transfer stuff. I could move the ide hard drive up close to the cd drive but I don't think its worth it. It's only something like a 700 meg drive. For what ever reason it seems to have a problem installing the audio bus drivers. The installation disk runs acts like it is installing everything. but the audio is not recognized. I'll hit the msi website later and play with that. I have loaded fah and going to tell him he doesn't owe me anything if he runs it. ;)

Take the 465 back and tell them he asked for "help" not abuse!!! Replace it with a 460 or even a 450, both vastly superior to the obsolete 465. The 460 will do just as well and use far less power.

Just put in a 450GTS and it's out-performing the 460GTX! Clocked to 925 the 450GTS is getting up to 14K ppd!!
