The side menu is pretty cool. Hey, is there any way you can make thoose links open in a new window?

I didn't see a topic on this, so I figured I'd start one. :)

Yeah, the side menu is really cool.

Can't really think of anything else to say about it.

Thanks guys...I have noticed that the links don't open in a new window :D Time to play and figure out how to do that (I am using Java BTW....never used it before  )

phil

Sorted....links now open in a new window :D

Dustin

I'm impressed! That's fast!:D

Thanks Rick...after playing with it for the last half hour, I don't know how I have lived without it before.

Is there anyway to leave it on the main menu? Does it have to follow me around thru all the threads? Its a cool idea. Really, I visit the stats all the time. I will try to switch to this and see if it stops annoying me. ;)

It is meant to follow people around. It is a special program that looks for spies

So there is a camera hidden in the "D" I suppose. Well I guess I better watch what I wear in front of the computer. :)

Dustin
8th September 2001, 11:58
No, don't do that!

Phil where's the camera?;)

siggy
8th September 2001, 13:14
I like that you changed it to Collective Menu. I suppose the camera is in the "O" now. :D

How many of those troublemakers are there?:D
Thought about swapping over. It looks right on the other computer. (I.E. I can read it) But for some reason on this one it seemed to be too dark. I may try it again and see if any change since I did do a couple changes on this one.

BTW it does look good on the other one. First time I saw it. "What the ... is that doing?"

Same here, but now I'm glad to have it :D
Only whene it jumps up when you scroll up or down is a little bit annoying but it's growing fast on me :D so Phil you did a great job ( as usual ) :D  :D

How about adding a "search for new posts" to it? I leave the last thread I was in open all the time. Right now, I go to the top, click on The Genome Collective base thread, then click on "search for new posts"... I'd love to have that in the menu instead.

Dustin

Heya Phil,

Did you edit the "Hi Phil!" thread name? When I first created the thread, it said "HiPhil!" (no space) by accident. I changed the first post to "Hi Phil" and I the thread name changed. So I thought I changed it.

But now with Rick's "CPU production comparison" he changed the first post to "Hey, I found it !" and the thread name didn't change.

So anyway, I was wondering, did you change the thread name, or did I?

You can only change the name of a thread within the first 5 mins of creation. After that you will need a mod to change it. BTW, you changed the name of your thread :D

Thanks, I was confused about that. So that's cool though, you can change your thread name for 5 mins by changing the first post name.

Hey, is there a detailed online manual for vBulletin somewhere?

Hehe. There is only this (http://www.vbulletin.com/manual/index.html) online manual.

Thanks!:cool::D

I don't think it'll be much use to you, it is more for admin than anything else :)

Why don't some of the codes work? like [center]? HTML doesn't work either.:(

I have html turned off in the posts...this is because it can be used for malicious purposes (as tril will verify :D ) To get the benefit of html, I can program certain tags to do the function of html. I have only added the [move] tag so far. I didn't find it necessary to add the [center] tags etc.

Dustin
9th September 2001, 17:39
Good point. I never thought about the malicious intentions with the HTML.

If it's not too much hassle, can you at least turn on all the vB tags?

phil
10th September 2001, 02:08
All of the vB tags are turned on that ship with vBulletin. Any extra have to be customized and the only tag I have added is the [move] tag. The move tag calls this html:

<table height=100 width=400><tr><td style="filter:bold(color=black strength=1);font-family:arial;font-weight: BOLD;font-size:'14'"><marquee direction="left">This Moves Across The Screen<br></table>

I haven't added any more as the standard tags do the job.

Dustin

Hey there Phil,

I think having every last topic posted on the main page makes it look cluttered.

siggy
10th September 2001, 12:47
I think it helps with it being in a different color.

phil
10th September 2001, 12:53
Don't worry guys (and fems), I am just messing for now...it needs a few tweaks before I get it working how I like it :)

Dustin
10th September 2001, 12:55
What if it were just smaller? Can you do that Phil?

Yup, I am working on it :D I need to get some other things sorted first....it is not rendering symbols properly, instead it is using the ASCII code ie " is rendered as &_quot (without the _)

I have removed it for now.

siggy

Kool Avatar Phil. :D

phil
18th September 2001, 05:43
Thanks siggy :D

BTW, I am going to remove the side menu's for now as some people have complained about the CPU usage being high. I'll try to figure out a way to put the option to use them in your profiles for the people who want to use them.

Dustin
18th September 2001, 06:00
That's funny... I checked the CPU usage after you put the menu there, less than 1%

Have you checked on the PM box size/limits yet?

Edit- .5% CPU usage with the menu there.

I certainly will, In the test forum, we had hrtml turned on for a while and you can really screw with stuff. Phil took great delight in putting streaming audio in all his posts, chews bandwidth and bloody annoying ;)

BTW Phil, I liked the sidebar, can we have it back? :D

phil
18th September 2001, 06:51
OK, I am creating 2 new styles....for those that do not want to use the menu, go into your user prefs and change to the TGC (No Menu) or vBulletin Default (No Menu) style.

siggy

Thanks for the options Phil. It works like a charm. :)

Phil, your quick reaction time is very impressive. I don't want you to burn yourself out though.

Just speaking for myself here, I don't need stuff done immediately. Take your time, and enjoy yourself. :)

Phil, can you put a justification tag in? Align left, align right. When you fliph, it aligns right. All you can do is center it.
