Belgariad: The Movie?
Belgariad: The Movie
Who would you pick to play the characters? For Belgarath I would pick Malcolm McDowell, with Brent Spiner playing the twin sorcerers, Belkira & Beltira.

How the **** do you make a five-book story into a movie? And really who would want to? I mean, Eddings is a nice light fantasy read. The Belgariad and the Mallorean are basically the same and the other follow-ups are just milking a nice light little story. Can't see it, TBH. Not popular enough to really be able to make the merchandising pay-off.
S'funny, 'cos they've been talking about making a movie of the Wheel of Time for ages but that's never happened either. Now that LOTR is a big success, the studios are looking for other fantasy series to make into movies but none of the others have the requisite popularity and are the right length. Very few stories can be deliberately strug out over a sequence of films. Each Star Wars film was a complete story. LOTR was a huge gamble but was based on an incredibly successful book with a huge cult following. Dune was made too early and was pitifully bad. Wheel of Time is (about to be) ten books with three more to come and is simply too long to ever be filmed with real actors (but could be great if the whole thing was done in CGI). Expect to see a number of "fantasy" films being made with most of them being really crap.

I think it could be made into a series of 5 movies - or TV specials of about 2 hours long each. The Malloreon is too much of the same, so I think that if it is done, then they should stop at the end of the Belgariad.
